[Feature Request] Material Buttons / Texture Buttons

The addition of ramps, raytracing, etc has made materials so much more powerful, but it's also made the Material Buttons window very cramped.

I think it's time to move the texture button panels (such as Texture, Map Input, and Map To) that are currently with the material buttons either to their own buttons set (like texture-to-material buttons), or move them in with the texture buttons, where there's quite a bit more room.

Additionally, has anyone considered
1) making the view in the material preview window changable using the middle mouse button, just like you would change the view in the 3d viewport
2) giving the texture preview the option to toggle to the active material preview, so that you can more easily see how the texture changes are affecting the material
3) treating texture displacement as a mesh modifier and have the modification appear in the 3d viewport

It would be nice to have a visual showing the deflection distance on objects that have softbody or particle deflection, similar to what's going on with armature envelopes now.
