X3D Export problem

Post by dfts_tom » Tue Feb 14, 2006 11:36 pm

Hi
I am using blender for a school project and we need our files to be exported as X3D files. Right now I am not very good with blender, and am having a little trouble. I made a simple model, without textures or animation. It consisted of a icosphere and cube with several extrusions. The entire thing used the subsurf subdividing thing to smooth everything out. It looks fine in the 3D window in blender, but when I use the X3D export tool (The default one that is a part of version 2.41) and open the file using the Flux player, there are no subsurf divisions. Here's a picture to explain it better:

And this is what it looks like in the Flux X3D viewer.

So my question is, why does this happen? Is X3D unable to handle the divisions, or am I maybe missing a step in the modelling process? I hope that makes sense. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just convert/apply the subivision to mesh and it should be fine.

Well I've been working my way through the semester, and this week I stumbled upon a new problem, and once again its probably a matter of me not knowing what I'm doing rather than the exporter not working properly. I made half of an object and then duplicated it to get the other half perfectly symmetrical. When I exported to X3D, some faces on the duplicated half dont show up. Heres a picture of what it looks like in blender and in the x3d viewer:

Can anyone help me figure out whats wrong?
