Another feature request: Volumetrics
Volumeteric materials or objects
Ease the creation of clouds, fire, smoke, etc.
Particles work extremely well in creating these objects up to a point but after that they need help. A volumetric system would really help to push the particle system and Blender as a whole over the top.
POV-Ray shows how well clouds can look with a volumetric material.

Just to mention this link here as well:Caronte wrote:Someone is working on it now, be patient

And just to quote Letterrip from the elysiun forum:
It isn't planned for 2.42, so who knows when a patch will be available...

Just to point aout that you can use POV-Ray and write a volumetric shader in Blender very easily now:

Bump! I'm very interested in volumetrics. Especially now that the node system is in place, I would like to know...
1) How far along is volumetric rendering?
2) Could material nodes make an equivalent?
These posts and the wiki page are nearly a year old. I think it is a great time to revive interest in volumetrics. At this time, it's the only lacking rendering feature that I can see.
