Newby question number 2: How do I (or is it even possible to) change the background colors that Blender uses for it's user interface?
On some screens, I find it difficult to read all the words. Being able to change to a scheme with greater contrast between text and background would help my eyes!

That would be extremely easy...
Search the sources for glClearColor, change the color and voila... You still need to compile it though...

If possible, perhaps something like this (screenshot from Discreet Combustion v1 'Color' preferences pane) might go nicely in Blender's options panel:

If you want change show that you wan it, because I know most of you can't edit source code, why not ask for user editable functionality like every other program has, come on over to the interface discussion forum and we can iron it out there.
