3ds importer and rgb per face

Post by bucky4 » Mon Feb 12, 2007 1:18 pm

Apparently, the 3ds python importer does not recover per face color information. The Face Material (4130) chunk is ignored.
But I read that many persons can load 3ds files exported with sketchup "version pro" in Blender. Since most faces in sketchup objects are not textured, but simply have color info, I wonder how they are doing it? Is there another script available somewhere that deals with this, before I try to modify it?

I don't think that per-face color information (like vertex coloring in blender) is supported in the 3ds format. You could do this by creating materials of different colors and then setting the faces to use the materials you want.
