Hrm, I think the documentation on the members area is a very old one. It is Jan's API, which was dropped.
However, in 2.25 Strubi did a nice cleanup of the Python API, and he also started a nice documentation. I try to post it soon here.
I worked with Strubis API (which is in parts an extension and also compatible with Zr's API) lately and it is the most flexible I think.
