environment.plist makes OS X 10.3 Python work with Blender

Post by badcheese »

This page has instructions for setting the PYTHONPATH:
http://download.blender.org/documentati ... 11855.html

There is a section about "Setting PYTHONPATH on Linux and other UNIXes" that tells people to use a rc file. This does not work in Mac OS X, because apps launched from the GUI don't get shell variables. OS X uses ~/.MacOSX/environment.plist, which is a XML file as described here:
http://developer.apple.com/qa/qa2001/qa1067.html

Maybe this information should be included in one of these "official" places: Maybe Blender should even ship with an example environment.plist file or maybe it should offer to create one for the user when Blender is run for the first time.

OS X 10.2 does not come with Python, so people install it through Fink. Maybe Fink takes care of making these environment variables available. I don't have the Fink version of Python installed, so I have no idea about it.
