3ds Importer not longer works for blender 2.37

After updating to blender 2.37 I am unable to import 3ds files.
The geometry imports allright but the textures are not longer imported.
Does anybody knows of an updated 3ds importer for 2.37.
I tried installing 2.36 but now it also can not import textures.
I have hear other people having the same problem.

Thanks for your help!

I'd try with .obj instead.

Thanks so much!

Thank so much for the script 0.8 it seems better but I am still not able to import textures. I guess you did not fix the texture problem yet right?

Thanks again.

I also tested it, and my textures did not work either.
I so wish blender would have proper 3ds support for import / export.

Jep, it would great to have a real good 3ds export and import.

There are other python projects for 3ds:
http://www.aerojockey.com/software/dice3ds/
http://www.demonseed.net/~jp/code/threeDS/

May usefull for make it better.

And what about native 3ds support (3ds is such an important format) using
lib3ds ?

I did not have much time and do not know the format, but it is time for a proper 3ds format support. We need somebody that continue development. May something for Googles Summer of Code?
