Python - 3DS Import Problem
Moderators: jesterKing, stiv
Hello,
I tried the thing with "installing Blender 2.40". My 3ds-file... which should actually be a cat... was opened, but it was just a simple cube.
This is the file I used, i got from a free model library:

Previously trying to open it in a new Blender version brought these mistakes:
I hope somebody can help, because I'm a complete 3D beginner. Thank you!

importing blender files in blender
What's the trick?
I had an external teacher on Blender and he directed me to this forum and topic, when I couldn't import blender objects in blender.
I'm on XP, Blender 2,49b, Python 2.6.4.
When I try to import blender file, I choose 3ds as format, and in the console the message is Fatal Error: Not a valid 3ds file
If this is not a valid file format for blender files, what it is? There is no .blender format to choose from in import options.

File - open, just open in the same window and removes the previous info
Shift + F1 worked for me - thanks to

May be I should have searched more before writing here
Cheers

I'm a newbie and I'm trying to open a 3Ds file (converted using the Autodesk fbx converter into 3ds from an fbx exported in Maya) but I am getting the same error message - Not a valid 3ds file.

Hi folks,
I am just a begginer in blender, I have a problem when importing .3ds files into blender -2.49b for windows, every time it gives me the following message: "a hole phyton installation not found" does anyone have a clue of what can I do next?
Thanks a lot
