Creating a 3D anaglyph video

Post by Varegue » Wed Nov 01, 2006 2:22 pm

I am not a Blender expert at all but I do enjoy this fantastic software, and I estimate that I only know about 5 to 10 % of its features.
Therefore maybe what I am writing is already well known, and so forget a beginner tip, but maybe not.

I had noted that Blender can generate in game mode anaglyph displayings.
I then wished to render image in anaglyph to amplify the 3D effect on my little achievements.
For that I render the scene with 2 cameras, and the input the 2 images in a software that generates the final anaglyph image.
Many such freeware can be found on the web: I personally use Anamaker that can be found at
Loving my (modest) results, I then intended to find a (free) way to create anaglyph videos.

I eventually found the freeware StereoMovie Maker that can be found at
The principle is the same as for the anaglyph images, I create 2 parented cameras, simulating 2 human eyes, and the generate for each camera the videos and input them in StereoMovie Maker.
I quickly create a 12 sec sample to check it, that can be got at:
Forget about the artlessness and simplicity, it is just a demo quickly made, but I had fun getting this first result.
So perhaps would you have.

question about anaglyph

Post by bluelab » Wed Jan 03, 2007 1:51 am

I'm pretty new to blender and 3d stuff and I wonder if you could tell me
which is the distance between the cams you used and the lens
and also if it's possible to use the anaglyph property of game engine
directly without passing through a stereo video maker

thanks in advance alex :)
