Chat and Gallery
(I sure hope no one already commented on this and I missed it!)
Am I correct in remembering there used to be a gallery of user artwork on the site before NaN collapsed? I thought that was neat-o, and was really looking forward to participating.
Also, are there plans for a real-time chat between registered users -- could be fun!
What do you all say?

ok folks lets get this right.
Blender.org is the developer website, blender3d.org is the foundation site and elysiun.com is the temp. artists site. unfortunetly this is unclear for new users.
please go here to find out whats what: http://www.blender3d.org/blenderdotorg.html
then go here: www.elysiun.com

I think galleries are essential for a 3d development website. It's at the list to incorporate. Unfortunatly the used packages (postNuke and sourceforge) dont support this feature, so we'll build this ourselves.
Building an IRC server (irc.blender.org) is also at our todo list. This will be tied to the running projects here, so that people can meet & greet.

just goto www.mektek.net . they galleries there just ask how they did it im sure they would be more than willing to tell you.

totally agree
What Blender.org needs is a chatbox! this keeps the spirit alive!!!
We can share our problems and get solutions in real-time! that would be real great and for all the tallented out there: A gallery would be nice.
So Ton Roosendaal You know what to do!

Link categorizer..
I think both chat and gallery could be good here, and maybe easy to
add, but could divert attention away from the purpose of the
site. What may just be as good is a cateorgization section
where you list sites that contain such content, and
have an object to test the links periodically to make sure they
are working, maybe even allow users to vote on the validity of the
links so certain information comes to the top or is
pruned away later when a link is useless..
That way the users participate in providing chat systems,
galleries, etc.. But without the links getting stale.. Users maintain
the references. All without getting in the way of the focus of the site,
which is to support the open source development of blender.

If Blender was reallly that rigid it would not exist.dittohead wrote:ok folks lets get this right.

Hi all,
In my humble opinion, Blender *really* needs a very good showcase of work created in it. Just go to the Newtek website and check out the Lightwave gallery, there are masses of top notch work on display there.
Now go to blender3d.com and check out the gallery, there is in total 15 images -- a couple of which are less than inspiring.
Originally Me and Timothy arranged to work on a top class gallery for elysiun.com, with me collecting artwork, and Timothy doing the php coding. Now Timothy has stepped down for personal reasons and things have been stalled for a few months now. The upshot of this is that I have 230 of the best images created in Blender sitting on my H/D, but nobody can see them.
Now what I request is a coder and someone who is willing to spare roughly 30 meg of good webspace so I can get these images online (an update to Blender3d.com's gallery maybe?)
Anyway, I also wrote a bit about it here, so please look:
http://www.elysiun.com/forum/viewtopic. ... c&start=30
A little preview of some of the images:

Anyone who is interested in helping out please get in contact with me, the community has been screaming for a good image gallery for years
