bf-blender / Windows (2004/06/18) - Patched with Softbodies
Hey, I've looked into instinctive blender and decided to port the softbody functionality to bf-blender. The build in here is based on a bf-blender checkout of a few weeks old. This build thus focusses only on the softbody functionality. There's not much documentation (yet), so just fiddle with the settings for the effects.
Credits go to Alexander Ewering, who came up with the idea and implemented in Instinctive Blender. I patched bf for this. This is unofficial, and _not_ in CVS. Don't do anything dandy with this.
Some stuff that can be done with this:

Basic information on the Soft Effect
------------------------------------
The "Soft" effect in fact consists of 3 seperate effects, ranging from
Metaball-like meshes to something that could be called Cloth simulation.
All Soft effects have a "DeformOb" field, which specifies the Object
that should deform the mesh the Soft effect is applied to. The DeformOb
never deforms itself.
The mesh that is being deformed is from now on called "Soft mesh".
The Soft mesh has to be subdivided in order to be deformable. The more
subdivisions, the better the resolution. Note though that the resolution
of the Soft mesh also influences the way it behaves for the "Dynamic"
effect.
Common parameters

The file for windows can be found here: This has been committed to tuhopuu
Enjoy!

Forgot to mention (although I said so on IRC), I'll create a tuhopuu patch first, and it will travel the entire way of patch review to possible bf-blender release project. So it may take some time. Until then, you'll have to do with this and soonish Tuhopuu.theeth wrote:Don't hold your breath I'd say.steve_t wrote:These features are great, when will they be in cvs?
Anyhow, it's most likely going to be in tuhopuu before it's integrated in bf-blender.

My first concern was getting this compiled and running, so I haven't really looked into several important aspects, like quality of code, correctness of code for Blender, and integration with Blender (does it fit in it's current state, does it need modifications), etc.
That said, I point at this thread to show there is progress :]

Woo hoo, quality of code... don't get funny... if you really insisted on quality code, you could scrap 50% of the new code since open-sourcing on the wholejesterKing wrote: My first concern was getting this compiled and running, so I haven't really looked into several important aspects, like quality of code, correctness of code for Blender, and integration with Blender (does it fit in it's current state, does it need modifications), etc.

Thanks for porting over these features ! They're great fun to play with, hope they make it to the CVS one day.
I find using the force field and collision effects are very simple and work extremely well. The only problem is that when I select smooth or sharp falloff the object simply vanishes, in both the render and object mode in the 3D window.
Cloth, on the other hand, I cannot get to work well at all. I try to make a cloth fall under gravity onto an object (a sphere) but it almost always falls through the sphere. The one time I did manage to make it drape over the object it quickly became extremely messy. Any hints how to make decent cloth ? The demo avis looks rather good.

Good news!
Thank you very much for this compilation!
