PocketPC
Hello Everybody!!
I use Blender and it is fantastic! I recently bought a PDA (ASUS A620BT) but I can not run the ipaq version.
Is someone also interested with a PDA version :=) ?? Would it be in the future such a version? It must be a big work to import blender on a PDA...
Good luck,
Salvatore

Unfortunately, russose, it appears that the Pocket PC code was never released as open-source. Why is this?? I haven't a clue. I bought an iPAQ within the past 6 months as well, but Blender didn't work on it. If the code was released, I might learn a bit more of OpenGL so I could work on it, because I think it is awesome!
So... anybody know why the source for the iPAQ version wasn't released?

I seem to remember it was something like:gsusfreek wrote:So... anybody know why the source for the iPAQ version wasn't released?
the pocketpc doesn't have opengl
the parts that were added to blender to allow it to run on the pocketpc (as if it had opengl?) could not be open sourced, says NaN's investors
... or something
the 2.04 code is also supposedly a lot more simple than the current code, implying it would be difficult to get any version onto a handheld
(I think the 2.04 code was open sourced though, but as you know, not the 2.04 for ipaq code)
Oh. I thought that the Pocket PC had like a lite version of OpenGL. Yeah, here it is -- OpenGL ES:

Maybe the PocketPC doesn't have this (yet. It should soon, I would think).
Maybe somebody should try to make a lite version of blender to work with the Pocket PC. That would be sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeet.

Klimt might be the answer
Hello,
I've bought a Zaurus (Yes, I know, no PocketPC, but still a PDA) and there seems to be something called Klimt, which is a cross-platform software implementation of most of the OpenGL|ES and some parts of the OpenGL standard, totally in software for portable devices...
it can be found here : http://studierstube.org/klimt
Klimt is available for the 2002 and 2003 versions of PocketPC, so that should be ok. Only thing I can see as a problem is that the omissions from standard OpenGL make Blender non-compileable.
Regards,
David

sorry to bring an old thread, but i know it's better to reply than start a new one.
There is now a project for pocket pc called GAPI. what about this lib? is it enough near opengl to just connect blender to it or does it take more code rewrite to run blender on a pocket pc?

My $0.02:
If somebody were to port blender to pocketPC, that would be great, but the rasterization may not be the big problem (klimt looks like a good way to do that) but more an interface issue. What features would not be necissary/feasible on a pocketPC that are in a full-up computer version, such as Yafray rendering or sequencer? Then the big question, how does the user go about using the pen and few buttons that there are to be as productive as possible. I've tried the 2.04 ipac version and thought it was great to be able to blend on the run, but it was a little wierd to use.
cheers,
bob

Halfway down the trail to hell....
no mo too think this is not very good for production. But it can be very usefull to show 3d stuff on hand. for that you don't need yafray intgration and other massive stuff. so the install will be lite. no quicktime, no international.(more fast without it) etc... i'm curious if the gameengine could make it thoughscourage wrote:My $0.02:

Great. i would be very been thankful if i see blender 2.34 running in my ipaq 4150
If somebody dares to make a port for PocketPC i can be betatester.
For example pocketpc Blender version only needs, all for model, and render (in order to be able to model and to see the results anywhere). Animation gameengine etc... better for PC. Or network rendering throug wi-fi
I do not imagine modeling and rendering while I take cafe. Or for example, this weekend i'm going to my brothers house, and I could continue my projects in the train.
PLEASE, SOMEBODY CAN START THE PROJECT??
I hope that this becomes a reality and it does not continue being a dream. It would be a great advance to blender
Sorry for my bad english.
