There have been a few messages in here recently complaining (and sometimes very rightly so) about the difficulty of finding tutorials, download links, 'what is blender' info etc. etc. etc. The current blender3d.org website is now rather old and out of date, since it hasn't been changed since the NaN days. We're currently working on doing a bit of an overhaul of the blender3d.org site to make it more accessible, up to date and easy to use.
So yes, you aren't alone in your concerns, and these issues are being addressed. Hopefully it won't be too much longer until the site is ready, but until then please try and keep patient and continue to post constructive criticisms.
