Hidden lines

Is there a way to not show hidden lines and vertices in edit mode? I find it very hard to model anything when the vertices from the other side of the model show up even with drawtype shaded on :(

[EDITED, I misunderstood the question]

There's no automatic hide function of the vertices that are "behind" an object, but there's the "hide" and "reveal" button on the right of the Edit buttons (F9). They hide and... reveal (!) the selected vertices and the edges next to them. You can also use the hotkeys H an alt+H. :wink:
