Blender Segmentation Fault Problem

Post by alexpskyline » Wed Jul 07, 2010 9:03 am

I've been using Blender on my laptop, then i wanted to do it on my desktop, which is now running Xubuntu. The problem is that blender shows a gray screen then closes.

I tried the terminal and i got:
Compiled with Python version 2.6.5.
Checking for installed Python... got it!
Segmentation Fault
The computer specs is old soo:
Pentium 3 processor
384 MB RAM
Intergrated Graphics
Xubuntu Linux OS

That error message is probably due to the amount of RAM. Not enough or bad ram sticks tend to cause segmentation faults on Linux systems. You can check the memory in GRUB to make sure it's functioning. Base Linux will almost run on a slice of moldy toast but with more demanding software; upgrades to the hardware may be needed.

This is exactly right. It took me ages to sort this out and it was the RAM all along. So obvious I missed it! Wish I'd found this thread earlier. As it stands I was just checking to see if I had actually sorted it once and for all. Looks like I'm on the right track.
