Extrude problem

Hi,

I am totally new to Blender. I watched a couple of tutorials just to get familiar with interface. As I've felt fairly confident with interface, I have tried to model something. One of the tutorials can be found here:

It explains a couple of tools but I have stuck while trying to Extrude faces. When I watch the tutorial, at about 11:45, the tutor gets a proper shape after applying extrude. What I get is this:

I tried to go back and do it again on the same model but it always result with this from. I don't know how to overcome this. Obviously, I can start again but I would like to know what's wrong.

It's hard to tell from your image, but it looks like maybe you didn't select the last face on the right before you extruded.

It cannot be seen, I agree but I have selected them symmetrically such as 2 left and 2 right. Left faces have been extruded correctly whereas the right ones not.
