2.31a,2.31,2.30 crash on start up on powerbook g3

Post by Crasty »

is anyone using any of these versions of blender 2.31a,2.31,2.30 on a wallstreet powerbook?

any version since 2.30 has crashed at startup. I know my laptop has only 4 mb for video ram - 2.28c works fine on the same laptop - so has the new GUI interface introduced in 2.30 demand more video ram?

os 10.2.8
233 mhz wallstreet power book
386 ram
ati rage 4 ram
10 gig hd

and if this helps here is the crash log:

4 Mb of VRAM is far below the limit to use Blender. It requires 8 Meg
at least, and run in 1000s of colors then. Even 16 Mb is low, only with
32 Mb you get the fun of 3D opengl on a Mac.

Our problem is that OSX manages opengl memory, OSX uses itself opengl a lot, and just crashes another application when there's no memory available. We are still looking for a reliable method to detect this at startup, and give users a warning.
