You can place your downloaded models in any folder that you have access to.
It is up to you to remember where you put them.
Personally, I have a directory called BlenderProjects where I keep everything I am working on. Each new project has its own sub-directory within that.

downloaded some clone trooper models bit i don't know how to get to them

Provided that they are in a format that Blender can read, you will need to File -> Import to get them into Blender.

None of them are compatible. if anyone knows of any that are or can tell me how to make my own please reply.

It might be helpful if we knew more about the file you are trying to open.
Filename with extension would be a great help...

FBX, and MAX they don't work.
