Compiling after altering Python code

If you change code within python files (specifically space_view3d in the bl_ui directory), is it possible to compile blender the normal way (just using CMake) or are extra steps or flags needed?

why not just paste your edited py files into the compiled blender dir and restart blender?

Can't understand why you would re-compile blender after such changes...
I'm sitting, waiting, wishing, building Blender in superstition...
