Lol, I love funny error messages:

Reproduce it by making a cube, subsurf level 2, apply modifier. Then decimate modifier to 0.1, then apply. Then go into edit mode. Eeek.

I'm not sure it is a problem but if not then maybe the message shouldn't appear. This is in 2.4RC1.
