Blender v2.41 for Windows x64 available here!

Post by adkiller » Mon Feb 06, 2006 1:29 pm

WARNING: Please do not download this build! If you have please uninstall it and install my newer builds in this forum. This build is very unstable and could crash your computer! This build is left here for experimentation purposes.

Here are the links to download 'em:
http://www.graphicall.org/builds/builds ... show&id=91
http://rapidshare.de/files/12727939/ble ... 1.zip.html
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3TX4III4

The application was built using Visual C++ 8.0 x64 compiler with full optimizations. Please post in this thread if you have any problems. I have made some code tweaks to utilise some 64-bit optimizations. You should be able to see 40%-60% speed increase.

Works on both EM64T and AMD64 running Windows x64 editions.

YAFRAY won't be available for Windows x64 till they get some 64-bit portability issues sorted out. I would appreciate any pointers on this if you guys have any.

NOTE: This release will *only* work on the following OS:
1. Microsoft Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
2. Microsoft Windows 2003 Server x64 Edition

This release will *not* work on Windows XP Home and XP Pro (32-bit Edition) running on AMD64/EM64T processors.

Enjoy,

Is it required windows x64?

I tried on Windows XP and see that I have no supported processor. But I run on P4 EM64T exactly.

In order to use EM64T features on your P4, you must be using Windows XP Pro x64 Edition.

Wow that's cool I'll test in on my father's machine some day (yes he got a 64 bit AMD duh) btw you are wellcome to use graphicall.org to host your builds.

So how fast is this build running on win 64? :D

Renders times are cut in half on average (or better in some circumstances). Complex meshes in 3D view could be edited much more smoothly. Heck it is even faster than Modo 103!

There are some considerable amount of patching required. For example SDL required some __cpuid patches in order to compile. Also all the __asm keywords need to be replaced with generic fp functions that the compiler could optimize.

You will also need the AMD64 compiler kit installed for VisualC 8.0.
I have not tried buidling it with the bundled AMD64 compiler in the latest Platform SDK, coz I have VS 2005 DS.

I could post a diff of the blender 2.41 changes I have made. Do you want that?

Yafray-64 anyone?

Post by Iggyboo » Thu Feb 16, 2006 4:14 am

Now all we need is a 64-bit Yafray for Winders

Sorry bout that. I couldn't create a poll here in this forum. It keeps telling me that I have too many poll options. When all I have entered are: yes, no, maybe. I even reduced the options to yes and no and it still wouldn't work.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks
