I noticed the lack of linux i386 builds recently and decided to have a go at it myself -

there's no sound support in this build however openal threw up a bunch of errors so I compiled without it!
Note: this build also includes two extra shader nodes of my own - Separate/Combine RGBA - basicly the material node equivilents of some patch I found somewhere for the compositor.

I think that openal sound is only used in games/sequencer or something - SDL should work though which is probably what you're hearing! - epat.
