The UX Designer is responsible for producing user experience and designs (in the form of documents, mockups, prototypes) that define the Blender software product vision. A deep understanding of Blender’s current UI paradigms is required, as well as relevant experience in the field of computer graphics and animation production tools. This position requires the ability to work with artists and developers, an aptitude to learn, and the ability to work independently.

This is an on-site position, for our Amsterdam HQ. Please only apply if you are willing to relocate.

Team and Responsibilities

  • You’ll join the product team, working alongside a senior designer and the head of product.
  • Collaborate directly with developers to help define projects and explore their feasibility.
  • Support the development team by providing feedback and making final design decisions throughout the project/feature life-cycle.
  • All your work will be developed in the open and released as open source.

Qualifications

  • Skilled in problem solving.
  • Gather requirements and feedback via user research and other means.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce quality work on time and within specifications of the project.
  • Design and concept development skills, attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Oral, written and presentation skills with the ability to clearly communicate ideas in English through documents, wireframes, user flows, mockups, briefs, sketches, etc.
  • Ability to quickly experiment, test and iterate user interface concepts.
  • Experience working with graphic designers and developers to see your vision through execution.
  • Ability to multitask projects with competing priorities in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Education and/or Experience

  • Formal education in the fields of design, fine arts, user experience design, computer interaction, communication design, interface design, or HCI.
  • Three or more years of related professional experience.
  • Or equivalent proven combination of education and experience.

Bonus

  • Proficiency in implementing and working with design systems.
  • Experience in creating interactive prototypes using tools like Penpot.
  • Icon design skills.
  • Ability to translate concepts into functional features within Blender.
  • Worked on Blender add-ons or tools for other DCCs.
  • Active participation in open-source initiatives.
  • Knowledge in design thinking methodologies and agile practices.
  • Experience with focus groups and user research.
